Map Web Page
In my web design class we are making a demo of a website which is of a map as the web page and on the map there will be markers with info on each one. We are doing this project for a potential client. What the client wants is to be able to zoom in and out on the map and see all of the places where he has done improvements on. If you rollover on the markers then you'll be able to see 2 pictures of the before and after work and you'll also be able to see what they improved at that house.
We had to do some research to get some inspirations on different websites to see how the website should look like. The 3 options that I found was Zillow.com, Walmart.com, and Tacobell.com. Zillow.com is a real estate website. This website has a map with locations of any places that you can buy or rent from or you can even put your house up for sale. If you scroll over any marker on the map a little popup box pops up. The little popup box includes the number of beds and bathrooms are in that place and it also shows the amount of square feet there is and how much it costs.
The next website that I found that had a map was Walmart.com. You can find this map in the store locator area. This one is a little like Zillow.com but the only difference is that instead of rolling over it you have to click on it. When you click on the bubble a popup box comes up. On the popup box there is the store name, where its located, the hours they are opened, and it shows the stores services. They also have a list on the side with the store names. You can click on a store on that list and the little popup box comes up with the info for that store.
The last website that I found with a map is Taco Bell. The map on Taco Bell is found under the store locator. This one is like Walmart where if you click on the bubble a little popup info comes up. The popup info includes the store address, how far away it is from you, and the store hours. Just like Walmart Taco Bell has a list on the side with the names of the stores. And just like Walmart if you click on the store on the list the popup box pops up.
From the 3 websites that I found the one website that I would use is probably a mixture of Zillow and Taco Bell. I would use them both because the map from Taco Bell is from virtualearth.net. The map looks like its easier to use. The ideas from Zillow that I would use is the rolling over the bubbles part and having little info popup with it. I like this idea because more people would be able to understand that you need to rollover the bubble to see the info instead of not knowing if you have to click on it or not. The map from Taco Bell I would use because it seems like an easier way to embed it into a webpage and you'll be able to keep up with it easier.
